It’s been fun starting up this little seedbox service. It didn’t take too long for all of this to come together either. We bought a box, plugged it in, and set up torrentflux for ourselves as an experiment, just to see what it would be like. We were immediately hooked, and had huge amounts of fun with the software every day. Then we invited some friends to give it a try, and hooked them up with accounts on the box. They all loved it. We all used the seedbox very heavily, and had a great time doing it…the community aspect of sharing something like that with a bunch of friends was pretty cool.
We looked around one day to see who was selling these hosting accounts, since we set up our first box on our own - from buying it ourselves to plugging it in. We were just poking around to see who else was playing around with this stuff, and we were really surprised to find that not too many sites were offering seedboxes specifically.
So, we decided to register seedboxhosting.com and give it a shot. It’s been fun, and watching people sign up and enjoy it as much as we do is great too. Fun for the whole family.

Recently, someone asked about why their inbox at a private tracker has been filling up with this message:
“You have at least one torrent in your client that’s been deleted from our system.
Right now it keeps announcing uselessly to the tracker.
Please stop or remove all torrents that don’t exist on our site any more.
You will get this message once for every 100 announces you make for nonexistent torrents.”
Well, lately the same has been happening to me… more than a few times.
What is happening is that something you downloaded from that tracker has been deleted for one reason or another.. usually it is a duplicate of something someone else uploaded a day or two earlier. Sometimes it is because of quality reasons or the torrent is in violation of rules.
Here is what to do. You have to find out which torrent has been deleted, and then delete it (or just stop it from seeding) from our TorrentFlux Seedbox. To find out what torrent has been deleted in TorrentFlux, click the name of the torrent or the icon on the right that looks like a hand pointing at an index card. A window will pop up showing all the details of that torrent. Click Log. This will show you the history of the torrent up till now.
If you scroll to the bottom of the torrent and it says something like:
[2007/09/25 - 10:23:25] tornado up and running.
then you are good to go, that torrent is running fine. If however you scroll to the bottom of the log it may say something like this over and over:
[2007/09/21 - 06:05:24] error: rejected by tracker - torrent not registered with this tracker (unauthorized)
then you know this torrent has been deleted from that tracker (or another tracker) and you should stop the torrent from running. Delete all the messages in your inbox and you shouldn’t get any more.
Note that it is possible for two or three torrents to be deleted from the tracker and that just getting the first one taken care of will not stop the messages. You have to find them all.
It seems to me that there should be a faster way to find these in TorrentFlux, but I have not found it yet. Let me know if you do.
Have fun.

Although I have been using Seedboxes for about a year now, this is the first time we are making this powerful tool available publicly. Until now, a close circle of friends have been helping us test this as a way to get great speed to our seeding torrents. Share and share alike - this helps us share.
My first introduction to computers was the Commadore 64. My parents didn’t think video games were all that great and instead bought me a computer with ‘educational software’. They didn’t want to buy me games so I spent my first computer years programming my own. Recreating things I saw on the shelf at stores… simple alien invader and car racing games. This turned out to be the best thing that could have happened to me as I learned to program computers. Programming has been my bread and butter for many years now.
Today I find myself using the internet quite a bit for music and other media. Over the years things have changed quickly, and today I have great tools, linux servers, cool software and access… We hope to share some of our linux administration skills and server resources with the BitTorrent community by making our favorite tools available to you. Today we launched SeedboxHosting.com with that in mind.
More coming soon…
